Go Purple at RJCC
On Tuesday 17th January I was again privileged to accompany eight children to Redbridge Jewish Community Centre at Woodford Forest United Synagogue to participate in activities for Jewish Care’s ‘Go Purple’ week. Our pupils worked with small groups of members, both helping and participating with them in a range of ‘purple’ activities, from bouncing a purple balloon on a bat to remembering which purple object had been removed from the tray of objects.
The afternoon was filled with fun, smiles and above all the liaising between the young and the ‘not so young!’ Watching our pupils naturally chat and be with older members of the community, sharing stories, jokes and helping one another was a clear reflection on how important creating this link is. Our intergenerational work not only benefits the elderly members of RJCC, it benefits our pupils; seeing and meeting people who have had a variety of life experiences but connected through a common bond of Jewish values and basic humanity where we can all work and be together. Through this the children experience the things we have that link us and bring us together and through their care, compassion and wonderful personalities can shine a light and make a difference.
