A Police Officer Visiting Reception Last week, the children in reception had a visit from a female police officer and it caused great excitement - the children couldn’t wait to talk to her! Fielding enthusiastic questions from them about street patrols, investigations, and arresting people, the police constable was also keen to inform them about the more ‘nurturing’ elements of her job role in a social context - helping members of the public requiring assistance, for example. The children also took great interest in exploring her uniform, some even taking up the officer’s invitation to try on her hat! The officer concluded her visit with advice on safety issues. Inside this marvellous machine... This week we had a visit from our IT technician. We asked him if it would be possible to see what was inside a computer. We were really excited to find out that, Inside this marvellous machine, there's a world of intricate parts working together to perform calculations and tasks. These parts include the motherboard, CPU, memory, and hard drive. The CPU (Central Processing Unit), also called the processor, is the brain of the computer. Memory, like RAM, stores data and instructions the CPU is actively using. The hard drive stores more permanent data, like files and applications. Afterwards the IT technician left us with a computer, lap top, calculator and a key board where we were able to explore and dissect them using screwdrivers. We really enjoyed having this opportunity and we learnt how marvellous these machines are.
